Summer is the perfect excuse to pour yourself a tall, ice-cold glass of something homemade and refreshing. If you’ve tried my popular Honey Sweetened Cherry Limeade, you already know how amazing honey tastes in fruity summer drinks.

So of course, honey-sweetened lemonade made its way into our summer lineup — and wow, what a treat! It’s quick to whip up, and you can make it ahead of time so it’s perfectly chilled when you’re ready.

About the Key Ingredients

  • Fresh Lemons– look for firm, bright yellow lemons with smooth skin (no wrinkles). This recipe is made with classic lemons like the ones typically found in grocery stores. They’re juicy, perfect for lemonade, with an acidic tart-tangy flavor.
  • Honey– for a natural sweetener that blends deliciously with lemon, use your favorite floral honey here. I use a lighter in color honey like golden wildflower or clover honey, as it doesn’t discolor the lemon juice. Look for local honey at your farmers markets or coop for best local flavor.

How to Make Homemade Honey Lemonade
Step by Step

The advantage of making lemonade in the blender is you don’t need to heat the honey in water to dissolve it. This way, your lemonade is ready to share over ice right after blending.

Traci’s Tips

  • Cloudy or Crystalized Honey:sometimes this happens. To get honey pourable again, set glass jarred honey in a shallow water bath, on very low heat, until it’s liquid again.
  • Sweeten to Taste:honey lemonade is easily adjustable to taste. My family enjoys the full amount in this recipe. At this measurement, the floral notes of honey come through but without diminishing the bright tart flavor of the lemon juice. Feel free to reduce the honey (start with a few tablespoons) and add to taste.

Instructions

  • To a blender, add the lemon juice, honey, water and salt if using. Blend on low for about 20-30 seconds or until the mixture is well blended. It will be foamy. Use a spoon to stir the foam down. Taste for sweetness adjustment and blend again if needed.
  • Pour over iced packed glasses and garnish with mint and thinly sliced lemon wheels (optional). Or, transfer the lemonade to lidded Mason jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

*As written, this is a honey forward lemonade. Feel free to adjust the honey down initially, then add more to taste. For a more tart lemonade, use less honey.
